GHF Members – Class of 2007
Athena Samaras’07, Co-founder
In January of 2007, Athena Samaras and Mark Dlugash ’08 attended a conference on malaria sponsored by the organization, Americans for Informed Democracy (AIDemocracy). After returning from the conference, they were inspired to found the Global Health Forum at Swarthmore. They wanted to bring an organization to campus that would promote awareness of global health issues, and allow students to make tangible improvements in global health, specifically through reducing the global incidence of malaria.
Athena studied Biology and Psychology at Swarthmore and now works as a health policy researcher at the Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, IL. She plans to pursue a career in public health and/or medicine and would love to have the opportunity to work internationally.
