GHF Members – Class of 2008
Mark Dlugash ’08, Co-Founder and Executive Director
Mark Dlugash graduated from Swarthmore College with Highest Honors in Psychology and Education. He is currently the Seth Green Social Entrepreneur Fellow at Americans for Informed Democracy. As an undergraduate, Mark traveled to Kampala, Uganda to meet and interview families affected by malaria. He also coordinated a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program that raised over $200,000 dollars in tax refunds for low-income residents of Chester, PA. In 2008, Mark was named a Scholar in Service to Pennsylvania and a USA Today Academic All-Star. He plans to pursue a career in social entrepreneurship and human rights law.
Katie Camillus ’08
Katie graduated in 2008 from Swarthmore where she studied Economics, Public Policy, and Peace and Conflict Studies. Through a scholarship from the Lang Center, she initiated a small loan program in the Acholi Quarter of Kampala, Uganda. It was this connection which led GHF to focus its first fundraising effort on providing bednets for the Acholi Quarter community. Katie is now conducting economic development research in Thanjavur, India where she works as a Project Manager for the Center for Innovative Financial Design.
Lauren Irizarry ‘08
Lauren graduated from Swat with a major in Biology and a minor in Psychology. While at Swarthmore, she participated in Global Health Forum and Expanding Your Horizons, and worked as a SAM, Chemistry TA, and tour guide. Lauren’s interests include medicine, public health, sports, dance, and traveling. She is currently living in Chicago and working for Dr. Charles Bennett’s Clinical and Policy Outcomes Research Team at Northwestern University, continues to help with GHF’s Minus Malaria Initiative. She will be attending the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern, and hopes to pursue an MPH in the more distant future.
Lucy McNamara ’08
Lucy is currently a graduate student at the University of Michigan pursuing a dual PhD in Microbiology and Immunology and MS in Hospital and Molecular Epidemiology. She is currently doing research on latent reservoirs of HIV in the human body that allow HIV infection to persist in spite of effective drug treatment. As part of the development team of GHF, Lucy helps with grant-writing and contributed to the design and content of the website. She continues to update the Global Health News section daily. If she had spare time, Lucy would enjoy playing with her husband and cooking experimental vegetarian food.
